Captain "Gus", Nikolas Kodros
Captain Gus joined Schooner Lazy Jack at the helm in the spring of 2022 and purchased her from Captain Sean O'Connor in 2023.
Gus was born and raised in Alton, IL on the Mississippi River, (home of the world's tallest man). He was around boats as a kid but didn’t take it seriously until 2012 when he got a job as a deckhand on the Nina and has been sailing professionally for over 10 years.
Gus first sailed into Camden in 2015 on the Nina and Pinta and moved to Maine in 2016. He worked as a live aboard crew member on Schooners Stephen Taber and Ladona until he got his Captain's license in early 2019. He then took the helm of Schooner Appledore; sailing between Camden, Maine and Key West, Florida; until 2022 when he joined Schooner Lazy Jack.
Captain Gus will share the history and stories of Camden and Penobscot Bay and the seas beyond. He is looking forward to taking you to enjoy the sights and sounds on the bay and as you relax and enjoy the sail and the views.
Captain Sean O'Connor
Sean O’Connor is the former owner and the builder of Schooner Lazy Jack. He sailed from Camden Harbor for more than 30 years, is licensed through the U.S. Coast Guard and is an experienced blue water sailor.
He has logged over 100,000 miles at sea, from Maine to the Caribbean and into the Mediterranean on windjammers, square rig ships and magnificent classic yachts.
Sean returned to Camden in 1998 with Schooner Lazy Jack to add to the existing fleet of tall ships and to share the bounty of his journeys.
In 2003 he undertook building a new schooner, Lazy Jack — the only schooner in Camden built by her owner. She was launched in September of 2004.
