Q: What days / times do you sail?
We sail every day from mid-May through October, weather permitting.
Please visit our Schedule & Booking page for exact sailing times and to make a reservation.
Q: How long is the trip?
Our day sails are two hours long, starting from the time we leave the dock.
Private charters can be two hours or up to a full day. More information here.
Q: What is the check-in time?
Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time to allow for check-in and boarding. We board 20 minutes before departure.
Q: Where will we go?
We pass Curtis Island lighthouse as we sail out of Camden Harbor and leave Mt. Battie astern. As we head into Penobscot Bay we sometimes head towards Mark Island. Other times we may sail up the coast towards Lincolnville. We'll share some local history, sailing lore and plenty of good fun. The winds tell us where we'll be heading, but we'll always have you back on shore in two hours.
Q: What will we see?
We may see seals or porpoise. Keep an eye out for ospreys, particularly as we leave and enter the harbor - they like to nest on the channel marker there. Out towards Mark Island we may see ospreys, bald eagles, harbor seals or cormorants. Depending on the time of day we may see a lobster boat checking their traps and always other sailboats and motor vessels enjoying the bay.
Q: What to wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. The boat is steady but we do heel (lean over) while under sail and you may find the decks a little unsteady at times. Please wear flat shoes, those with rubber soled shoes may give you better footing, or you are welcome to go barefoot.
It may be warm on shore but it will generally be cooler out on the water. Bring a jacket or sweater and long pants if you tend to get chilly. A hat and sunscreen are good too. We do have blankets on board for your comfort as well.
Please bring your camera to take the memories of your sail on Penobscot Bay home with you.
Q: Do you serve food or drinks?
We do not offer food or drinks but you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and something to drink and enjoy it on the water. Wine and beer are ok. Please bring an opener and plastic glasses.
Q: Do you take children?
Children are welcome on board Schooner Lazy Jack II. If they are very small please bring a life jacket for them. We do carry life jackets for every passenger but they may not fit all small children and we want to be assured they are safe. Please note, that per Coast Guard regulations, all passengers including infants, must be on our manifest.
Q: Can I bring my pet?
Dogs are welcome provided they are friendly, well behaved and on a leash.
Q: How many passengers do you take?
Lazy Jack II carries a maximum of 21 passengers, plus captain and crew. With her spacious decks and cabin tops to sit on, there is plenty of room to enjoy the beauty of Penobscot Bay. She is Coast Guard inspected and certified.
Q: Is there a bathroom?
Yes. On a boat it is called a head. It looks just like your one at home.
Q: What if it rains?
If you have reserved a sail and we are unable to go out due to the weather we will reschedule you on the next available sail or we are unable to reschedule we will give you a full refund.
